There is no doubt that there is a definite need for more programs to serve students in underserved communities that do not have the same educational opportunities as their peers simply because of their ethnicity, race, or school district. As an organization whose primary mission is to facilitate ease in attaining higher education through interest-free loans, we feel the need to do our part, even if it’s a drop in the ocean.
Lower family wealth among African American families coupled with the decline in state funding for two-year and four-year public colleges ultimately pushes these students to borrow more money. So, in comparison to white students, African American students are impacted by student debt to a far greater extent.
