MOMNetwork Honoring Role Models Legacy Fund

MOMNetwork (Mother Of Muslims) has established the Honoring Role Model Legacy Fund with A Continuous Charity to award students in the DMV area an interest-free loan while honoring a female role model.

MOMNetwork is a membership organization all about Empowering, Engaging and Establishing programs for MOMs and their families.

The backstory from Sr Shellie (CEO of MOMNetwork):

Five years ago, I started Honoring Role Model Ceremonies. It was a few months after the passing of my Mother. I wanted a way to honor her and her concept of giving people their roses before they passed. Since the first honoring role model, we have celebrated over 50 women and five Legacy Awards (posthumous award).  

For five years, I struggled with adequately presenting the Legacy Award. The first year, I didn’t have an award made for my Mom – just her name taped to an empty chair and a bouquet. Because I didn’t know who I would give the award to – my brother or sister.

This year, we have partnered with A Continuous Charity, a not-for-profit organization that provides Interest-Free Loans. We have developed a Legacy Fund that will replace the physical award. Each Legacy Awardee will have their name added to the Legacy Fund.

So our Mother’ names will be added to MOMNetwork Honoring Role Model Legacy Fund. In turn, a deserving African American Muslim living in the DMV area will be given the loan. This Legacy Fund will be managed by A Continuous Charity, allowing this to be a long-term source of sadaqah (a continuous charity) for our Mothers.

MOM Network’s Mission:

MOMNetwork’s mission is to develop a community where MOMs receive the tools and support needed to be advocates for their families and themselves and provide a forum where women can take an active role in protecting their well-being and happiness.

A Continuous Charity’s History and Impact

ACC has been serving the Muslim student population since 2013, and have awarded 342 Muslim students with interest-free loans saving almost $3m from going to interest. Each year college’s become increasingly more expensive and the need grows which is why the community’s support is needed.
