The Ruqia Hayat Rasool Legacy Fund was established with A Continuous Charity (ACC) to honor an extraordinary woman whose love for education transformed the lives of her family and continues to inspire generations. Through this fund, her legacy lives on by helping Muslim students pursue higher education through Qard Hasan (interest-free educational loans).
A Legacy of Faith, Education, and Sacrifice
My mother, Ruqia Hayat Rasool, was a woman of remarkable intelligence, grace, and resilience. From an early age, she dreamed of pursuing higher education, but like many women of her generation, that opportunity was never available to her. At just seventeen years old, she married my father, Dr. Ghulam Rasool, and dedicated her life to raising our family.
Although she was unable to fulfill her own educational aspirations, she made it her life’s mission to ensure her daughters never faced the same barriers.
With unwavering determination, she championed our education, encouraged our ambitions, and sacrificed endlessly so that we could pursue our dreams. Because of her vision, three of her daughters became physicians, and one became a physicist who later built a successful career in business.
As a Professor of Radiology, I know that every achievement in my career began with my mother’s belief that education has the power to change lives. Her greatest legacy is not found in titles or accomplishments—it is found in the countless lives that have been transformed because she chose to invest in the next generation.
Continuing Her Legacy
Today, far too many talented Muslim students face a heartbreaking choice: give up their educational dreams or take on interest-based (riba) student loans.
The Ruqia Hayat Rasool Legacy Fund exists to provide another path.
Through Qard Hasan, students receive interest-free educational loans that allow them to pursue higher education while remaining true to their Islamic values. After graduation, they repay their loans so the same funds can support another student, creating a perpetual cycle of opportunity and generosity.
