On September 11th, while the country paused to remember tragedy, a Muslim student in Texas woke up to another painful reminder of hate:
A pig’s head on a stake outside their mosque, with a sign comparing Muslims to swine.
The most disturbing part? Silence.
No local coverage. No national headlines. It was as if the attack, and the Muslim community itself, didn’t matter.
But this student refused to be silent.
They picked up the phone, called the news themselves, and stood in front of cameras. They spoke not only for their masjid, but for every Muslim-American who has ever felt invisible, unheard, or unwelcome.

They went on to found Salam Speaks, a youth-led initiative amplifying Muslim voices in American media and politics.
