Honoring a Legacy of Education and Sacrifice
The Al Imtiaz Education Support Fund, established by Dr. Anjum Hassan, a physician at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, honors the memory of her beloved mother, Dr. Imtiaz Siddiqui. Dr. Imtiaz Siddiqui, a hardworking single parent, devoted her life to ensuring her children had access to education, even when financial resources were limited. She instilled in her family a deep understanding of the transformative power of knowledge and a commitment to success through learning.
This fund is inspired by her legacy of resilience, sacrifice, and an unwavering emphasis on education as a tool for empowerment. To honor her memory, we aim to support Muslim students in St. Louis who face financial challenges, continuing her mission of fostering education for the pleasure of Allah (SWT).
“Read! In the Name of your Lord who created.”— Surah Al-Alaq (96:1)
The pursuit of knowledge is a noble act emphasized in the Quran. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said:
“The seeking of knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 224)
Our Mission: Empowering Students with Interest-Free Educational Loans
In partnership with A Continuous Charity (ACC), the Al Imtiaz Education Support Fund provides interest-free educational loans to Muslim students in St. Louis, helping them pursue higher education without compromising their faith. Together, we work to alleviate the financial and spiritual burdens associated with riba (interest)-based loans, aligning our efforts with Islamic financial principles.
Student Testimonials:
- Seeking graduate and higher education often costs a fortune, leading many students to fund their education through loans. For Muslim students, however, this poses a significant challenge as these loans are typically riba-based, and riba is a major sin in Islam. I was blessed to find Al-Imtiaz, an organization that agreed to fund my education with riba-free loans. Al-Imtiaz is a one-of-a-kind organization in the U.S. that recognizes both the importance of education for Muslim students and the challenge posed by riba-based loans. May Allah reward them for their hard work.
- As Muslim Americans, we have long lacked institutions that support students embarking on the long and arduous path to careers in public service or social justice. The Al-Imtiaz Education Support Fund is critical in helping to fill this significant void. We are truly blessed to have opportunities like this and can only hope that such efforts continue to multiply.
Through the Educational Partnership Fund (EPF), we are committed to:
- Supporting Underserved Students: Empowering those who are less fortunate to achieve their educational dreams.
- Uplifting the Community: Creating opportunities for students to build better futures and give back to their communities.
- Fulfilling an Islamic Obligation: Offering a halal alternative to educational financing while seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT).
How the Fund Works
- Student Eligibility: The Al Imtiaz Education Support Fund prioritizes St. Louis Muslim students, with criteria based on financial need, academic potential, and a commitment to community service.
- Fund Management: Managed by ACC, the fund ensures loans are disbursed and repaid in a manner that maintains transparency and sustainability.
- Ongoing Support: In addition to funding, ACC and Al Imtiaz Education Support Fund work collaboratively to organize educational workshops, promote scholarship opportunities, and raise awareness about debt-free higher education.
